On May 13-14, 2025, a team from our Department visited our Slovak partners in Košice. During two intensive days, we took part in workshops, training sessions, and discussions on education in the field of power electronics and electric drives.
During the Problem-Based Learning workshop on microcontrollers, Dr. Viktor Slapak presented specific examples of laboratory exercises created in collaboration with industry partners. We then took part in two round tables - expert discussions - “Selected problems in teaching power electronics” and “Selected problems in programming in mechatronics,” during which we discussed typical problems in teaching these subjects.
On the second day, we focused on the role of the supervisor in doctoral studies, where we considered how to make this role valuable for both parties. The last official item on the agenda was a workshop with Matus Draganowski on soft skills, in particular presentations. The workshop showed us what techniques an academic teacher can use to actively engage participants, transforming them from passive learners into active participants. This approach can lead to better retention and application of knowledge.
Between these events, our hosts showed us their laboratories where they teach students.
Filled with knowledge and new ideas, we returned to Wrocław, looking forward to the final meeting in Hungary and thinking about how to implement the knowledge we had gained.
All this was part of the PAEPEDE project: Pathways to Excellence in Power Electronics and Electrical Drives Education paepede.tech/ - funded by a Visegrad grant www.visegradfund.org/.
