Invention of scientists from Wroclaw - they write about our Employee!

Date: 11.10.2024

An interdisciplinary team of scientists from Wroclaw, including Dr. Marcin Pawlak from our Department is working on a bionic hand prosthesis designed for amputees at the forearm level. The prosthesis is equipped with sensors to determine the amount of pressure and feel the contact with the object being touched, thus adjusting the grip in its final stage to the object being grasped. The device is controlled by impulses from the muscles, which artificial intelligence will translate into movement, which will make daily life easier for amputee patients. The project is expected to be completed in 2025. Now the developers are preparing for tests with patients, which are scheduled for the end of this year.

Marcin Pawlak, Ph.D., was involved in the design and fabrication of electronic systems for controlling the mechatronic actuators used in the prosthetic hand and elbow orthosis, the design and fabrication of a prototype prosthesis-human haptic coupling system, whose task is to properly control a set of vibrating actuators placed on the patient's body and the selection, testing and implementation of various sensory systems in the prosthetic hand. Dr. Pawlak also collaborated on the design and development of structural and mechanical components.
